BUZZINDUSTRY MOVES | Williams Named Co-President at GreeneStreet; Hogan as COO

With Fisher Stevens stepping back from active day-to-day duties at GreeneStreet Films (GSF), the company has named Tim Williams its new co-president, alongside GSF founding partner and co-president John Penotti. Stevens will continue to produce selected projects. Longtime company consultant Michael Hogan has been named COO at the company. Williams will continue to oversee production and development in GSF's L.A. office, while Hogan is based in New York. Other recent staff changes include Amy Beecroft as head of GreeneStreet Films International, while Eric Spiegelman is on board as a consultant developing new media, digital and internet strategy, according to today's announcement. BUZZINDUSTRY MOVES | Wyatt Joins Intrepid; Kurian Upped

Trina Wyatt has joined Intrepid Pictures as COO/CFO of the company, co-founded by Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans, while Anil Kurian has been promoted to VP of development. Wyatt is joining Intrepid from Withoutabox, where she served as COO. She previously worked for Film Independent and Tribeca Entertainment.

BUZZINDUSTRY MOVES | Schwartz Upped at IFC

Lisa Schwartz has been promoted to EVP of distribution, operations and business development at IFC Entertainment. In the new role, she will oversee IFC's multi-platform activities, IFC in Theaters and Festival Direct, and new business development and expansion. She previously served as SVP of sales and business development for IFC Entertainment.

BUZZiW NEWS | Filmmaker Pan Launches Slew Pictures

Filmmaker Bertha Bay-Sa Pan has launched Slew Pictures Inc., a New York-based production company with a focus on developing and producing "universal stories that will both entertain and inspire." "We are dedicated to telling stories with heart and intelligence that cross international borders, and making the collaborative process as fun as the results," said Pan in a statement. The company announced it will co-produce "Almost Perfect" with Cineric, which Pan will write and direct. The film will star Will Yun Lee. Slew Pictures is also in pre-production on Annette Apitz's family drama "Fighting Fish." [Peter Knegt]

BUZZiW NEWS | Gaines Leaving AFI for Festival Directorship at Withoutabox

Christian Gaines is leaving his post as director of festivals at the American Film Institute (AFI) and will join The Internet Movie Database's (IMDb) Withoutabox team as film festival director. In the position, Gaines will oversee Withoutabox's film festival business, including relations and business development on the festival circuit worldwide. As director of festivals at AFI, Gaines spearheaded the annual AFI Fest in Los Angeles. He was also involved with the establishment of Silverdocs, taking place June 16 - 23 in Silver Springs, MD, in addition to the establishment of the AFI Dallas International Film Festival in March. Founded eight years ago, Withoutabox launched the submission system with one of the largest communities of indie films and festivals on the Internet. IMDb acquired the company last January. "One of the reasons I feel confident in leaving AFI is that it is in capable hands," Gaines told indieWIRE by phone Tuesday afternoon. BUZZiW NEWS | Evans Named Executive VP at Focus

Jane Evans has been elevated to the new position of executive vice president, physical production. Evans will report directly to Andrew Karpen, president of Focus and co-president of Rogue Pictures, who made the announcement today. In her position, Evans will "oversee physical production and post-production on all in-house film productions and outside acquisitions for the sibling Focus and Rogue labels." She will continue to be based at Focus' Manhattan offices, having joined the company as senior vice president of physical production in December 2004. [Brian Brooks]

After 10 years, Jody Kielbasa is leaving his post as executive director of the Sarasota Film Festival to pursue other interests. In the wake of the announcement, Mark Famiglio, executive board member and one of the founding members of the Sarasota Film Festival, was elected president of the board for the fest.

BUZZiW NEWS | IFC Expands Distribution With Amazon

IFC Films announced that it is joining forces with Amazon Unbox, Amazon.com's digital video service. The deal intends to make IFC's extensive library available for either purchase or rent. Amazon Unbox makes television and film available through either downloads to computers, TiVo boxes or portable media players. "This partnership with Amazon reinforces our commitment to creating the widest possible audience for independent films using multiple media platforms," said Lisa Schwartz, vice president of sales and business development for IFC, in a statement. Select IFC titles will make their digital debut through the deal, including Cristian Mungiu's "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" and Alfonso Cuaron's "Y tu mama tambien." [Peter Knegt]

Raymond Phathanavirangoon has been named the Southest Asian progammer for this year's Toronto International Film Festival. He joins TIFF from Fortissimo Films where he served as director of marketing and special projects. Phathanavirangoon has served as an international programmer for the Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival, worked for the Hong Kong International Film Festival and served on the Teddy Jury at last year's Berlin International Film Festival

BUZZiW NEWS | Urman Named ThinkFilm President

Mark Urman has been promoted to President of ThinkFilm, replacing Jeff Sackman who recently left the company. A co-founder of the company, Urman was head of theatrical distribution when it launched in September of 2001. Urman will remain based in New York City, which will now serve as the company's headquarters. Making the announcement, ThinkFilm chairman David Bergstein said, in a statement, "Mark has played a crucial role in establishing THINK as a brand that is known and respected around the world. His strengthened role in the company guarantees that THINKFilm will retain its unique identity even as we take the company in new directions." Since being acquired by Bergstein's CapCo in the fall of 206, the company has expanded stateside, while selling off its Canadian assets last month. Urman previously served as Co-President of Lions Gate Film Releasing and has also worked for Dennis Davidson Associates, Columbia Pictures, Triumph Films, and United Artists. BUZZINDUSTRY MOVES | Bonn Leaving Film Society of Lincoln Center

After five years as executive director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Claudia Bonn is leaving the post next month. In April, she will join Wave Hill as the new head of the public garden and cultural center in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Bonn has spent more than 15 years at the Film Society, previously serving as Director of Administration and as Director of Development. The organization's board is actively searching for a replacement.

BUZZiW NEWS | Kasell Launches New Festival Division at Home.Work.People

Denise Kasell, former executive director of the Hamptons International Film Festival, has launched a film festival consulting, staffing and training operation with Home.Work.People, a real estate and human resources company serving the entertainment industry with a database of some 2,500 freelance professionals. Aimed at smaller and midsize events, the company's new festival division will work to find and train a range of festival organizers and staff, as well as advising fests on developing key initiatives and programs. "There is a big gap in the way festivals are run," noted Kasell, "and we hope to bring uniformity and a professional approach to each event. At present there really is no one doing this.
